Fessler's approach is unhurried, letting each tune breathe while his quartet provides warm, intelligent accompaniment. There's no flash here, no unnecessary pyrotechnics, just well-played jazz that reminds you why these songs have endured. Minor Music was an excellent German label with real taste in what they released, and this album is a good example of why their catalog deserves attention.
