Hard Corps self-released this 1984 12-inch in the UK during the height of the post-punk to synth-pop transition, a perfect time capsule of that liminal moment. "Dirty" is lean and minimal: arpeggiated synthesizers, crisp and almost skeletal percussion, restrained vocals that let the instrumental arrangement breathe. The synth-pop aesthetic here is tightened to its essence—no melodic excess, just carefully placed notes and the space between them. There's an almost cold, Germanic precision to the production, though the hooks still land. If you're into John Foxx, early Duran Duran deep cuts, or the more austere corners of 80s synth music, this is worth seeking out.
