Hank Garland's *Jazz Winds From A New Direction* finds the Nashville session virtuoso—best known for his prolific studio work and technical mastery across country, pop, and jazz settings—exploring contemporary jazz territories with renewed purpose. Released on Columbia, this album captures Garland's fluid guitar voice in conversation with a thoughtful ensemble, moving through familiar standards like "All The Things You Are" and "Always" alongside more exploratory originals that hint at the innovative spirit of modern jazz. The record breathes with the kind of unhurried confidence that comes from a musician who's spent decades refining his craft across genres, here allowing his intricate melodic sensibility and harmonic sophistication room to stretch. From the swinging momentum of "Move" to the reflective space of "Relaxing," Garland balances technical command with genuine warmth—a session that rewards close listening on vinyl, revealing the subtle interplay and subtle arrangements that might slip past on a casual hear.
