Around The Polish Funk. Soul Service 20th Anniversary

Soul Service's two decades in Warsaw have earned them a reputation as custodians of something rare: the intersection where Polish jazz-funk meets genuine groove, where big band arrangements collide with soundtrack sensibilities and the weight of Eastern European soul. This 20th-anniversary compilation, drawn from GAD Records' catalogue, assembles tracks that reveal how deeply the DJ Team understands the architecture of funk—not as pastiche but as a living language spoken across eras and borders. The selections here, from the propulsive "Taniec Brzytwy" to the nocturnal sweep of "Sawanna Nocą," suggest musicians who've studied their craft in the grooves of Afrobeat, soul-jazz, and the looser end of big band, then brought those lessons home. It's a portrait of a scene that refuses easy categorization, rooted in place yet utterly cosmopolitan—the sound of a room full of players who know their instruments and trust each other completely.
