Däfos
Mickey Hart, the Grateful Dead's percussionist, brought his fascination with world music into the mainstream of rock music. This 1989 collaboration with Brazilian musicians Airto Moreira and Flora Purim is a meeting of cultures and musical traditions. Moreira, one of the most innovative percussionists in jazz history, and his wife Flora Purim, a vocalist of remarkable range and expressivity, bring the warmth and complexity of Brazilian music into dialogue with Hart's experimental background. The album dances between Afro-Cuban rhythms, contemporary jazz sensibility, and world percussion textures. Däfos feels exploratory and alive, with real chemistry between the musicians. A fascinating artifact of late-80s world music exploration.
