Dave Holland, the legendary British bassist, has spent five decades exploring the boundaries of jazz with everyone from Miles Davis to Herbie Hancock. Pepe Habichuela is Spain's greatest living flamenco guitarist, a master of the tradition's technical and emotional depth. Hands documents their 2010 meeting, a conversation between two continents and traditions. Holland's flexible, singing bass lines dance with Habichuela's guitar—sometimes rhythmic and driving, sometimes introspective and searching. The interplay feels improvised and intimate, two musicians listening intently to one another. There's no rhythm section to anchor them, just the raw exchange of melody and harmony.
