Improkofiev
Spirabassi is the improvisation project of pianist Stéphane Spira and bassist Giovanni Mirabassi, and Improkofiev demonstrates their creative dialogue in real time. Rather than strict interpretations of Prokofiev, these performances are conversations inspired by his compositional language—the two musicians respond to each other, drawing out melodic and rhythmic ideas and taking them in unexpected directions. The result is contemporary jazz that feels both grounded in classical language and genuinely spontaneous. Spira's piano playing is articulate and rhythmically inventive, while Mirabassi's bass anchors and propels the music forward. This is sophisticated improvised music for listeners who appreciate both jazz freedom and classical sophistication.
