Vol. 1-5 (1978-1984)
Alhaji Waziri Oshomah stands as one of Nigeria's most important highlife musicians, leading the Benin Godz and creating some of the most sophisticated and soulful music the genre has produced. This 2022 Luaka Bop collection gathers recordings from the prolific late 1970s and early 1980s, a period when Oshomah was at his creative peak. The music blends highlife's formal sophistication with deep emotional expressiveness and strong grooves, featuring multiple instruments layering into rich arrangements. Oshomah's voice carries tremendous warmth and authority throughout these extended pieces. These recordings had become increasingly hard to find, making this reissue both historically important and practically necessary.
