Wee's "You Can Fly On My Aeroplane" is a beautifully strange artifact of late-1960s soul, capturing that moment when funk was beginning to absorb psychedelic texture and the boundaries between genres felt delightfully porous. Originally released in 1968, this reissue lets you sit with songs that feel both deeply rooted in soul tradition—the kind of yearning vocal work and organic instrumentation that belonged to a specific time—and quietly experimental, with production choices that suggest someone unafraid to let the music drift into unexpected territory. The record moves between intimate, stripped-down moments and fuller arrangements where horns and strings drift across grooves that aren't quite straight funk, aren't quite soul, but live in the sweet space between. It's the kind of record that rewards close listening, revealing layers that suggest why it's found new life with listeners discovering the overlooked corners of American soul history.
