Return Of Black September
Muslimgauze is the long-running solo project of Bryn Jones, a British experimental electronic producer working from Sheffield since the late 1980s with a fascination for non-Western music, ambient synthesis, and looped, hypnotic structures. Return of Black September, a limited edition from 1996 on Staalplaat, demonstrates his maximalist approach: long-form compositions built from processed traditional recordings, drone layers, and tribal percussion. The title track stretches nearly nine minutes; Libya occupies over twenty. The effect is genuinely trance-like and meditative, though with unsettling undercurrents—less relaxation than ritualistic immersion. This is challenging, uncompromising work. As a limited release, copies are increasingly scarce, making it a notable find for collectors of experimental ambient and world-influenced electronic music.
