Black Magic Woman / Hope You're Feeling Better
Santana's sound distilled perfectly into a 7" single: hypnotic Latin percussion locked tight with Carlos Santana's soaring, blues-inflected guitar lines that seem to float above the groove. "Black Magic Woman" became their signature moment - that infectious rhythm section driving forward while horns punch through the mix and the guitar speaks in pure emotion. There's an immediate intoxication here, a blend of rock, Latin, and blues that feels both carefully constructed and totally natural. The B-side "Hope You're Feeling Better" maintains the same interlocking grooves while pushing the energy differently. This is what early-'70s fusion sounded like when it actually connected with the mainstream consciousness - essential stuff that sounds as fresh today as it did in 1970.
