Homeland
Spanish pianist Judith Jaúregui and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León have recorded two masterpieces of Romantic instrumental color: Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto in A Minor and Manuel de Falla's Noches en los Jardines de España. Grieg's concerto is stormy and lyrical, filled with Nordic character, while De Falla's work evokes moonlit Spanish gardens with guitar textures and Andalusian melody. Jaúregui brings technical assurance and interpretive depth to both works, and conductor Kaspar Zehnder provides sensitive accompaniment. The 2024 SACD recording is vivid and spacious, capturing the orchestral colors these composers lavished on their scores. Two masterpieces of national landscape and Romantic intimacy together.
