Runaway
Jeremy P. Caulfield's Runaway is minimal house at its most intentional. Released in 2003 on the Canadian Dumb-Unit label, this 12" strips house music down to its essential elements: sparse piano lines, reserved percussion, and plenty of negative space. The approach is meditative rather than dancefloor-focused; each track builds atmosphere through restraint. Caulfield's production philosophy is that less is more—minimal arrangements let small details become focal points. A reversed vocal, a filtered synth suddenly stands out. This is house music for listening, not just dancing. The tracks unfold slowly, rewarding close attention with subtle layers and unexpected moments.
