Orchis arrived in the late nineties with *Mandragora*, a record that feels less like a conventional folk album and more like stepping into a candlelit Renaissance apothecary filtered through psychedelic haze. Drawing on medieval and alchemical imagery—the mandragora root itself steeped in occult lore—the project weaves ethereal vocals and experimental arrangements into something that sits comfortably between neofolk and ambient dreamscapes. There's a scholarly, almost ritualistic quality to how these tracks unfold, with titles evoking hermetic tradition and natural mysticism. The production embraces space and atmosphere rather than conventional song structures, letting acoustic elements and otherworldly textures create an immersive, hallucinatory quality. This is music for deep listening, rewarding those patient enough to surrender to its strange, beautiful logic.
