By 1968, Aretha Franklin had already claimed her throne as the Queen of Soul, but *Aretha Now* finds her at a peak of creative confidence, surrounded by some of Atlantic Records' finest players and arrangers. This is a record that moves fluidly between funk grooves and intimate ballad moments—"Think" cuts with an almost defiant energy, while "I Say A Little Prayer" showcases her ability to reshape a standard into something wholly her own. The session musicians lock into tight rhythmic spaces that feel both of-the-moment and timeless, giving her voice room to breathe and command. Across these ten tracks, Franklin demonstrates why she's inimitable: her phrasing bends time, her power can fill a room or whisper a secret, and her interpretive instincts turn every song into a conversation. Whether it's the raw funk pulse or the contemplative slower pieces, this album captures an artist who has nothing left to prove and everything still to say.
