The ORF Big Band was the house ensemble of Austria's state broadcasting service, and Karel Krautgartner was a jazz elder statesman and skilled conductor. This 1974 library record showcases the band's versatility across soul-jazz, easy listening, and big band arrangements. Think sophisticated cocktail-hour vibes with enough rhythmic sophistication to hold the ear, influenced by both jazz tradition and contemporary soul music. These Austrian broadcast recordings rarely make it out into the collector market. This is a fascinating glimpse into the professional European jazz and entertainment music scene of the 1970s.
