Phatt Al's The Summa Skool EP from 2003 is a Canadian hip-hop release on New Empire Records that represents the underground hip-hop landscape of the early 2000s. Released as an EP, this project showcases Phatt Al's approach to production and rhyming during a period when Canadian hip-hop was developing its own distinct voice. The sound is grounded in contemporary hip-hop production values, with samples, drums, and scratches that reflect the era's aesthetic. Phatt Al constructs straightforward, skillful hip-hop that prioritizes solid craftsmanship and clear communication. The Summa Skool title suggests an informal, educational approach to the music, positioning hip-hop as a learning experience and cultural conversation.
