Bert Jansch was a Scottish guitarist whose fingerstyle technique and intuitive musical intelligence made him a foundational figure in British folk. Avocet, released in 2016 on Earth Records, came late in his long career and represents a lifetime of exploration. The album showcases his continuing ability to make his guitar sing across folk traditions—blues-inflected pieces, modal explorations, and pieces rooted in Scottish folk.
