Montemezzi L'Amore Dei Tre Re
Italo Montemezzi was an Italian opera composer whose work bridges the late romantic and early modern periods. L'Amore dei Tre Re is his most frequently performed opera, a dark and passionate work about forbidden love set in medieval Italy. Placido Domingo, one of the greatest tenors of all time, stars alongside mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne in this 1997 recording conducted by Nello Santi. The opera features lush orchestration and soaring melodies typical of Italian romantic opera, with dramatic vocal writing that demands both technical skill and emotional depth. The cast is stellar, with Cesare Siepi lending gravitas in a supporting role. A superb performance of an underrated operatic gem.
